City winger Lee Croft was keeping his fingers firnly crossed today that he would be fit enough to feature in Saturday's home clash with Sheffield Wednesday.

March 30th, 2009 by Latest News | Comments Off

The financial misfortunes of Norwich's would-be 'saviour' Peter Cullum and his rocking Towergate Insurance empire were back under the spotlight again this weekend as The Independent on Sunday claimed that accountants KPMG had been instructed to tackle the firm's 'debt mountain' in the face of the on-going bank and credit crisis.

Cullum – cited as Britain's 40th wealthiest individual in the 2008 Sunday Times Rich List with a personal fortune estimated at …

Suddenly I'm not though thick of this thoup any more. But, tis hard… tis hard…

March 26th, 2009 by Kevin Baldwin | Comments Off

Like most families, the Baldwin clan has a number of its own catchphrases which are trotted out at particular moments.

For example, there's 'I'm thick of thoup' (that's 'I'm sick of soup' as spoken by a young, lisping child) used when the same meal is served up with monotonous regularity.

'People like a buffet' is quoted whenever someone makes a wilfully contrary and unhelpful remark. (This originates from the time my wife …

Gunn left to play the loan numbers game as he ponders his options ahead of one, last deadline

March 25th, 2009 by Latest News | Comments Off

City boss Bryan Gunn will have to do his sums very carefully if he decides to add an extra face to his survival-hunting pack ahead of tomorrow's very final transfer deadline of the season.

For many years the fourth Thursday in March was the cut-off point for transfer – full-time or part-time; Premiership or Championship.

But the introduction of the FIFA-wide transfer window system changed all that – certainly for as far as the top flight clubs are concerned. …

McLeish lets Gunn's results do all the talking as the Master watches the Apprentice go to work

March 23rd, 2009 by Latest News | Comments Off

The Master was giving little away afterwards.

Whether or not the Apprentice would go on and carve out a decent managerial career for himself was, said Alex McLeish, too early to tell.

Given his rather dour response, it was probably too early to even ask the question after his one-time boot-boy Bryan Gunn had whipped two points out of his hands with Saturday's 1-1 draw at St Andrews.

What's more, he'd also pulled a motivational trick or two by …

Gunn reveals an ace up his sleeve as Dion is granted a chance to have a word with the boys

March 22nd, 2009 by Latest News | Comments Off

City boss Bryan Gunn revealed he had a little trick up his sleeve going into yesterday's 1-1 draw with promotion-chasing Birmingham – a certain Dion Dublin sprinkled his motivational magic dust over the players before kick-off.

In fact, Norwich's Player of the Season last year went to work on his old charges on the Friday night as teamed up with the squad at their Midlands hotel.

Given what followed as the Canaries dug a potentially priceless point out of St …

Dare we dream the dream? Survival secured at Portman Road?

March 22nd, 2009 by Stanley | Comments Off

So the great escape continues.

A point at Brum is no mean feat in anybody's estimation; to have deserved more and put in such a hard-fought and committed performance is promising indeed.

As it is, Gunn has now carved out a points tally worthy of a mid-table outfit with aspirations for the future.

Maybe, and just maybe, this year's Colditz-esque venture may even be such that it puts last year's break-out in the shade.

Clingan pays his tribute to the travelling faithful as the Canaries edge ever further north

March 22nd, 2009 by Latest News | Comments Off

City midfield star Sammy Clingan today said his thanks to the 'Yellow and Green Army' for playing their part to perfection in this weekend's 1-1 draw away at promotion hopefuls Birmingham City.

The better part of 2,500 Canary fans made the journey to St Andrew's – helped, in no small part, by the subsidised coach travel offered back the club's sponsors, Aviva.

Their reward was another hugely-committed effort by Bryan Gunn's reborn Norfolk side – …

Gunn has a special word for the referee after he almost cost his fighting City side dear

March 21st, 2009 by Latest News | Comments Off

City boss Bryan Gunn pulled no punches as far as referee Mark Haywood was concerned after today's official almost managed to ruin his St Andrews showdown with best pal Alex McLeish.

In the end a stunning, 53rd minute free-kick from man of the match Sammy Clingan gave the Canaries a richly-deserved 1-1 draw and kept the Norfolk side heading north going into the two-week break for internationals.

But Cameron Jerome's 38th minute opener clearly niggled after the …

McLeish ready for his old pal to put his best foot forward and Gunn for all three points

March 20th, 2009 by Latest News | Comments Off

Bryan Gunn's biggest pal in football insisted that it was “all to play for” at the of the Championship table – just as everything remains firmly up for grabs in the bottom four.

Alex McLeish – the man whose boots the Canary boss used to clean – is well aware that a decent run now could spare Blues the agony of the play-offs.

All too often, of course, for the team that finishes third there is only heart-break ahead; having missed out on one of the automatic promotion …
