Gaffer playing the numbers game… two for definite, three, four, maybe…

The word from St Mary's tonight?

The our Glenn was confident of adding at least two new faces to the squad on Thursday; there may be one more. Possibly another.

Which if old Ferret's fingers are enough should make four.

And given the Gaffer wasn't wholly ruling out today's reported interest in Scunthorpe's Martin Paterson, that could be one.

The Arsenal kid on whom he's got 'first refusal' could be another; and if Villa are about to let Gary Cahill follow Liam Ridgewell across the city, then maybe 'Tiny' could be a third.

And with Ferret's Spanish not exactly up to much, then you wonder whether or not Stephen 'Sunny' Sunday could be the fourth. That one, however, could be the outside bet.

The 19-year-old's future probably lies somewhere in the managerial melting pot at the Mestella with Ronald Koeman now reported to have The Special One breathing over his shoulder as Valencia's winless league run extends to a ninth week.

“We'll have a few new signings in by Thursday,” was the Gaffer's exact words after tonight's 1-0 win at St Mary's.

“I'm very confident about being able to announce two on Thursday – and I like to think there'll be at least one more. Even another one.

“Definitely two – stroke three or four, maybe.”
