There was some welcome news for Canary fans today with Leeds United facing a possible injury crisis ahead of Monday night’s live TV clash with Paul Lambert’s in-form City.
The Yorkshire Post have reported that star striker Luciano Becchio is a ‘major doubt’ for the top-of-the-table encounter and several other Elland Road stars are unlikely to take part.
Becchio is among a number of Leeds’ many injury complaints and, while United have not ruled him out, it would take a speedy recovery to give him any chance of featuring against the Norfolk club.
United boss Simon Grayson was reluctant to give details of his injury. But while he confirmed that he was likely to sit out the Canaries clash, the former Blackpool chief revealed that there were no broken bones.
The knock sustained in the recent goalless draw against Charlton is more than likely a case of strained knee ligaments for the 25-year-old.
“We’ve had the results from his X-rays and he’s a doubt for Monday,” he told the Yorkshire Post earlier in the week.
The Argentinian will be joined in the treatment room this week by Rui Marques, Robert Snodgrass, Shane Higgs, Jason Crowe and Ben Parker.
Grayson is hopeful goalkeeper Higgs and former Arsenal man Crowe will both be available to face Lambert’s troops having missed United’s last three matches.
But it is likely his squad will remain under-strength as he looks to leave it as late as possible before plotting how to halt a resurgent Norwich.
There was some good news for the Whites however, with Australian centre-back Patrick Kisnorbo completing 45 minutes as the Socceroos managed a creditable draw with Holland in Sydney.
