Our Ben Ambrose offers his thoughts on Ralf Fahrmann leaving City.
The German shot-stopper arrived with bags of experience in the summer of 2019, with hopes of regular first-team football, but ended up only making three appearances for Norwich.

All I will suggest is that the loaned in plsyers this season reminds me of the loans that Glenn Roeder made and his had much small fee’s attached.
Not buying that – while Fahrmann has not played it does seem likely, on the balance of probability, that his presence has pushed Krul to new heights – and no one can really be blamed for his wife getting homesick.
Amadou played a key role the epic win over Citeh and did not really do too badly in defence most of the time – where would we have been without him as defensive cover. It is not entirely clear what the issue was with midfield but he appears not to have been able to force himself into Farke’s thinking.
Roberts was a risk worth taking that did not work out.
We do need to remember that players are available on loan, typically, for one or more of three reasons:
1. The are young and still developing (e.g. Roberts).
2. They have been ousted from the team/squad by another player (e.g. Amadou and Fahrmann), whether to player is young, mid-career or in the twilight of their career.
3. They are on the road to recovery from injury (e.g. Krul’s loan last season to Brighton.
Clearly each of those three scenarios represents a significant risk to the loaning club.
All loans, I believe, need to be seen as high risk and while some work out really well (e.g. Huckerby) others do not and it seems to me that there is a significant degree of unpredictability in the process. This can also be seen in the varying degree of success of the loans that City make of their own players – some work really well others do not.
Comparing Farke and Webber’s work to that of Roeder is not on;y inaccurate it is scurrilous.
Good to see my previous comment got a reaction.
My point was that none of Roeders loans made any great impact during his time at the club and yes I agree that loans are a risk and that the previous season Webber and Farke got it right this season it just seems that we have paid out large fees for no great return on the field of play.
But if Farhamm had played we’d have paid out big wages to Krul for sitting on the bench instead. That’s how it is with keepers. I see Gunn is back on the bench at Saints for example.
