It’s time for us to remember the words to the Angus Gunn songs [yes there are two] and welcome Kosovan international Milot Rashica from the green-and-whites of Werder Bremen, who is likely to become our record signing at a rumoured £9.4 million before add-ons.
Then there’s 18-year-old Flynn Clarke from Peterborough, who has frightening potential judging by the effort which won Posh’s goal of the season award and seems super happy to be joining us judging by his quotes on NCFC official.
Now while I’m quite happy with these signings, it’s time to involve my usual quartet of MFW reprobates to see what they reckon.
Alex Alexander, aka Ed, kicks us off with: *So far we have only lost Buendia and the question now remains: will we lose anyone else? There are quite a few rumours re Aarons and TC, but so far nothing more than rumours. I’m hoping at least one will still be here to face Liverpool but we’ll just have to wait and see.
*SW has certainly been spending some of the money from the sale of our diminutive Argentinian and from what I’ve read the Rashica price is just over £9 million with the usual add-ons and Gunn comes in at £2.5 million+.*From what I’ve gleaned about the former, SW has done his rabbit out of a hat trick again and I hope he’s soon able to join the rest of the squad for pre-season.
*The only other rumour going strong is Billy Gilmour on a season-long loan from Chelsea, and Thomas Tuchel is a fan of Daniel Farke’s style of play. I’d still like to see a further two experienced players added to the squad, perhaps including a back-up for Pukki.
*It makes perfect sense to keep both Andrew Omobamidele and Adam Idah at Carrow Road, as being under 21 they are in addition to the 25 players allowed in the squad. Daniel Barden, Josh Martin and Bali Mumba should go on season-long loans*
Alex B surmises: *Delia has sold the first big jewel out of her treasure chest. Let’s hope she loses the key. With Spurs, Everton, Man Utd and some top European teams looking at Max Aarons I can envisage her over the cauldron rubbing her hands in gleeful anticipation of all that lovely jubbly lolly that could fill the coffers.
*Anyway City have received £34million plus for the sadly departed Emi and have started to spend it on new recruits and some not so new.
*Ben Gibson, Burnley, £8.8 million plus; Dimitris Giannoulis, POAK. £6.8 million plus; Angus Gunn, Southampton, £5 million plus; Milot Rashica, Werder Bremen, £9.5 million plus. Until Rashica settles into Norfolk and hopefully learns the lingo it’s going to be strange for him and his family but and it is a big but, I think he will be a successful signing for city to replace Emi.
*Maybe to come are a selection from Tosin Adarabioyo [Fulham], Seb Bornauw [FC Koln], Adam Armstrong [Blackburn] plus hopefully Billy Gilmour [Chelsea] and Olly Skipp [Tottenham] on loan.
*Aarons and Todd Cantwell might yet leave, of course.
*We still need a creative midfielder, a defensive midfielder to push Sorensen, and a centre-back from my suggestions above. Maybe Jordan Hugill could be a makeweight in a deal for Armstrong?
*The biggest signing should be Daniel Farke on a long term contract then offer Stuart Webber an extension – if not just make sure Kieran Scott doesn’t leave!*
Meanwhile Herr Cutz advises: *We’ve been splashing the cash, £25-£30 million depending on who’s guesses you believe. So that’s Emi’s dosh just about spent.
*Ben Gibson? – yeah, we had to keep him. Dimitris – worth a punt but I’m not too sure. Angus – good buy but young Daniel Barden must be gutted. Milot? – I don’t know, not a like for like replacement for Emi but that would have been too much to ask.
*So we need to sell to continue buying, or rely on loans. Billy Gilmour? A loan from Chelsea would be tasty, and Grant Hanley’s injury indicates we need another quality central defender. As for a striker, well they’re scarcer than hens’ teeth. We just don’t have the dosh to buy, and no one is going to loan us one.
*In summary, at least one more player to be sold, a defender to buy and a midfielder on loan. Names are anybody’s guess but Kristoffer Ajer the Celtic defender is one rapidly diminishing possibility.*
Bernie Owen concludes: *This is a bit like a phoney war, waiting for the moves to happen. There’s chatter about Max to Spurs with Skipp coming back on loan. Is Rashica our replacement for Emi, he’s not quite the same but might just help plus he can go through the middle.
*We need to have all this done by July 9 to get a proper pre-season in, with a centre back and one or maybe two DMs. In Webber we have faith and I sort of expect an announcement about a player that’s not on our supporters’ radar, a bit like the Rashica deal.
*I’m still sticking with my earlier guess of 13th place in that table at the moment as I’m feeling brave!*
Thanks to all four of the guys as always and they’ll be back for a review at the end of July when we will surely know what the squad will look like.
While you’re here…
In these difficult and trying times, MFW too is struggling. Generating income streams through ad revenue is a challenge across the globe and we have taken our own hit.
As such, we become increasingly reliant on the good people whose generosity extends to supporting us through a monthly Patreon subscription. For these kind folk we are, and will forever be, eternally grateful.
We appreciate times are hard for all of us, and every penny counts, but if any more of you could see fit to help us in this way, we’d be so thankful.
We also recognise that we have not expressed our gratitude sufficiently for the kindness of our existing donors, and so there’ll be some exclusive content on its way by way of a small thank you; something we intend to make a regular feature.
So, once again, thank you. Without you, the readers, we would not even exist. Please stay safe.
