Twas a grim weekend, so in the spirit of looking for positivity…
Positive, positive, positive…
Right, here goes.
1. The squad
Good cover in nearly every position. Two very good goalkeepers; four quick full-backs; two centre-backs with proven ability and two more with exciting potential; a plethora of dynamic wingers; three forwards with goals in their boots; and a central midfield of… (sigh), well, I tried to keep it positive…
2. The club
We are unique. No other club in the Premier League has those iconic colours; the family feeling (enough to boot out BK8); that special one-city support; the self-financing set-up; and such dreadfully performing local rivals.
3. The fans
Loyal, patient and fervent; there’s nothing like a City supporter. There’s joy to come – and you can’t say you haven’t earned it.
4. The celebrity fans
From Stephen Fry, Jake Humphrey, Alexander Armstrong and that Wolverine fella to genial hosts Delia and Michael, it’s an eclectic bunch who ride our bus. And all of them like to do different. That suits us fine. There’s room for plenty more on the bus too.
5. The future
Confidence. Confidence we won’t be a Derby (or whoever the latest financial car crash proves to be). Belief. Belief that there will be better times again soon, and glory and smiles. And Hope. There’s always hope – the football fan’s permanent band-aid and occasional lucky charm.
Yes, there’s always hope.
Where will we be this time next year? Well, either still in the Premier League having established ourselves for another season; or enjoying a slightly ropey start in the Championship and waiting for the afterburners to kick in for another enjoyable romp through the division.
Not so bad, eh?

Don’t forget the new computer/video 360 training tool we got as well first team in the prem to get one 😉
Thanks, CanaryJim. Every little helps!
When I saw the headline I thought ‘Oh, that’s going to be a short piece…..’
Well done for having a go
Thanks Don. I stretched it out as long as I could!
Hugh Jackman’s a Canary? So I’m not the sole Aussie supporter 😀 Good positive piece.
Hi Graeme
There are quite a few Canaries in Oz and I think they have their own supporters club & website but obviously geography makes regular meets on the difficult side of easy. They’re easy to find with a quick online search.
I’m not convinced about the Hugh Jackman link myself but it might well be true. After all, Michael Jackson was once heralded as a Fulham fan…
Let’s just say he’s probably not the biggest fan…https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/15228212
Brilliant piece through yellow and green tinted glasses👍
Suggestion for next week’s piece

Chris
The “Jelly “ remark was meant rather tongue in cheek.. your positivity is very welcome
I have been a City supporter for nearly 50 years and I cannot remember a more depressing start to a season..
I can only hope that the new signings bed in quickly and things come together.
I do think we must stick together as fans and support the team. The negativity and booing will only end up causing a self fulfilling prophecy of doom from which recovery will only be more difficult.
I cannot see the board ripping up a 4 year contract anytime soon ( They couldn’t afford it ). We should not forget how ecstatic most fans were that DF penned a 4 year extension only a few weeks ago and equally complimentary about SW’s efforts during the Summer window.
So keep up the positivity as the alternative is to depressing ( Could end up with big Sam) 😱

Big Sam turned us down as a player so I would hope he would continue to turn us down
Hi Chris
What a great spiritual uplift after Saturday. I’ve completely forgotten Gary’s article yesterday and my own this morning as well as all the comments on both pieces now.
Seriously I agree with Don H [above] as in:
Well done for having a go!!!
Good effort. For me Sargent looks like he’ll have entertainment value this year. Could cause some mischief.
As for this…
“We are unique. No other club in the Premier League has those iconic colours; the family feeling (enough to boot out BK8)”
Don’t attribute that to the club. They set up the deal and, if you listen to Webber, didn’t fully agree with canceling it.
I agree, I don’t really feel that this club is uniquely a family club. I believe they try but it is a hard trick to pull off. I remember taking my sons to certain events but I think other clubs do this too. It is difficult in Covid times to see whether these things will return. Thanks to the unsustainability of football in this country we are only ever a few bad years away from being a Derby as in the end the equation is our expenditure will be higher than our income if we don’t earn Premier League income or sell players, both aspects rely on success on the pitch. Reasons to be cheerful? Well we are in a better position financially than we would have been if we failed to gain promotion twice in recent years. We are not watching turgid 1-0 defeats, the matches I have seen have been open and possibly exciting for the neutral. Other than that I’m not sure.
Actually it is hugely positive, but as we all know in football you are only as good as your last result, hence we are down and Gippeswyk up. For me this could be one of the best seasons ever. If. If we somehow have a relegation fight. Nothing beats it. The neutrals have written us off, MOTD experts repeat their glib phrases (naivety etc), and the key board / pub bores are creeping out from under their stones. Cannot think of a better time to have a splendid rush.
we might be Derby from a points perspective!
Feel much happier now Chris, thank you.
Huge pressure now on all the other teams to beat us, after all, a loss to Norwich and that manager will be toast.
