Dear MFW Readers,
After 143 pieces and numerous hours of Norwich Talk content, my time at this fine establishment has sadly come to an end.
The last 18 months have been up and down for most Norwich City fans, but for me it’s been an absolute joy thanks to the unbelievable opportunities I’ve been given to learn, improve, do what I love and have fun, and that’s all because of my involvement with this website.
I appreciate that to most the byline is, as it should be, the least notable part of every article they read, but as somebody that’s been on the other side of the 800 words, I can only commend the hard work, dedication and passion that goes into making MFW tick.
Every person that writes for these pages shares a love for Norwich City that withstands relegation or poor signings or relegation again, and although I know many fan spaces can boast this quality, not all display the open-mindedness that allowed me to thrive under the MFW banner.
Not only must I thank editor Gary for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime, but for saying yes to every idea I had and backing me to back myself with what I wrote. It’s been a real privilege to work with Gary, and not just because his job was to edit out my mistakes!
Equally fantastic to work with has been Ben Ambrose, head honcho at the site’s affiliated YouTube channel. Knowing that we were improving together has allowed me and Ben a security that may not have been possible without our friendship (promise not to tell him I said that though), and we’ve had an enormous amount of fun working on Norwich Talk together.
I also want to thank MFW founder Rick Waghorn for creating such a fantastic environment, and every person that’s given me quotes for articles and advice along the way or informed my work, although unfortunately there are too many of these to thank individually.
Most importantly I want to thank every single person that’s read my articles. You may not have agreed with my articles but if they provoked something in you, sparked a discussion or even just entertained you for five minutes then I’m happy to have I’ve done my job.
I’m sure the excellent work hasn’t ceased, and I’d encourage any City fan to keep an eye on this space as well as Norwich Talk.
My first piece of advice for anyone with a passion for Norwich City looking to get into journalism will also always be to seek out MFW, so if that’s you I’d wholeheartedly recommend getting in touch with Gary as soon as you can.
For me it’s an exciting new role at Archant, where I’ll be covering City for the Eastern Daily Press, Norwich Evening News and Pink Un+ app. Being in this role means an ambition realised for me and a very proud moment, and I couldn’t have come close to doing it without MyFootballWriter.
Thank you for everything,
Sam
Well done, Sam.
Thanks, Sam – and all the best with your new endeavours.
As a fellow contributor to MFW, let me echo Sam’s comments about the people who run this site and the joy of working with them (not least the leeway they give us).
It is, indeed, a pleasure.
Hi Sam
I’m glad you have enjoyed your time with MFW – you wrote some great stuff for us and to take the time to acknowledge the site so personally will be appreciated by our many readers and writers alike.
I’m at exactly the opposite end of my career to yourself – I retired six years ago – but MFW remains a great place to be in my dotage and Gary G does indeed allow us all a more than reasonable degree of freedom.
Every gig is a potential stepping stone and your first was a good one – just like a band that starts at the Brickmakers.
Good luck to you for the future.
Best of luck and big thanks for your past writings. will be watching with interest.
Enjoy Archant and its new owners , haven’t always agreed with your articles , but hey that’s what makes the football world go round .
Good luck.
I’ve enjoyed your articles Sam. All the very best in your new venture.
Wow, what a great opportunity for you. I’m pleased that we will still be reading and hearing your articles and pieces of NCFC wisdom. Good luck and I look forward to consuming your material via the Pinkun app.
Great for you Sam.
Well done, and I look forward to reading your input for the Pink’un in its’ various forms.
And what a breeding ground MFW is proving to be…..first Mr Southwell, and now you…
Such a broad spectrum of writers and commenters…..and we all get a very fair crack of the whip, for which we must say thank you to Gary!
