On guest blog duty today is Mr Tim Ball – who some on MFW may recognise as one of our regular commenters. On the eve of a #NCFC AGM like no other, he asks some very pertinent questions…
***
Tonight is the Norwich City AGM. There will be no local media there for the simple reason, they have dared to criticize how the club has operated over the last year or so.
Now we all have our opinions on the rights and wrongs of how Norwich City goes about its business, but I think we must all agree that it is imperative to have an independent account of many of the issues surrounding our club over these last 18 months.
The in-house Norwich City media videos are something Vladimir Putin would be proud of.
Some of it is insightful, some of it interesting, but a whole lot of it is garbage – the summer recruitment of
2021 being reported as ”alright” for instance. So, that is why two of your marquee signings are presently on loan somewhere in Europe?
Why the hell can’t people at the top of running Norwich City FC admit it when they get it wrong?
I made mistakes in my professional life and bloody well fessed up to it. They would get so much more respect.
The blame culture at the top of Norwich City FC is “anyone but us”.
I am sure that Stuart Webber is not doing this on purpose, and I am sure he is working hard to improve the club. He has transformed the training ground and deserves every credit for that.
But there are so many questions the club won’t answer like:
Why were the fans blamed for the last EPL relegation by Stuart and Delia, who said that they had “deserted us”?
Why was so much money wasted on young players in the summer of 2021 for what any idiot could see was going to be a relegation fight?
Why have so many top people in vital positions left the club over the last two years, if working there is so wonderful?
Why has the club had to borrow all the incoming parachute payments for the next two years?
Is the club only self-funding in the sense that it means borrowing that money again in the future if we do go up and come down again?
Why was the American investment none of our business? You, Delia, are only the custodian of the club; it will exist long after we have all gone.
Why didn’t any of us get a chance to vote for player of the year last season? It may seem a trivial thing, but, for example, my mates Nick and Marty go home and away and the first they knew of it was when they heard the result (no criticism of Teemu, it was him or Grant by a mile).
And there are many more questions that need answering.
There is something of the Marie-Antoinette about our Delia. It is almost “you ungrateful rabble, accept
what you get”.
Imagine a world where there is no independent news – just the government telling us what is going on all the time.
Truss? Johnson? Corbyn? Would you believe it all? I certainly wouldn’t, and that is why this gets me so annoyed.
Norwich City owners and top executives live in a world at the moment where they really do believe that some pigs are more equal than others” And it stinks.
There again I suppose there are worse things in life than being a mushroom.
Hi Tim,
Well said, well said indeed.
Four MFW regulars including myself had an online discussion on this very topic this morning at the same time as the T20 semi.
We were 100% in agreement with you at seemingly every turn and I remember kicking it off with the subject labelled as *how childish can they get?* and a link to the appropriate local media site that broke the story of the AGM reporting restrictions.
Thanks Martin.
I think it is a slippery slope the club are going down.
We are meant to be in this together.
Archant or Radio Norfolk are NOT Talksh**e or any such outlet, demanding the club win the EPL or qualify for Europe.
In fact, at times, I think the club get, if anything the benefit of the doubt from the local journos. They want the club to do well just as we all do. But they are scrupulously fair.
Michael Bailey is also exemplary in his reporting regarding the club. As we are on here.
No one is infallible, let’s just have some honesty from the powers that be.
But sadly, turkeys and Christmas and all that.
spot on, nail on head 100% correct
Thanks canarlylad.
I used to be fanatical about OUR club, now? I’m really not bothered. Why should I care if they don’t? Works both ways.
Very true William, but I find I just can’t.
I have been going since 1969 and supported the team way before then.
Some people can just stop, and I understand that especially the way the fans have been treated but I am afraid I am in it forever.
stood up and appluded everything you said.
As a “northern” based support of some maturity i’ve seen good times and bad times on the field, with some pretty amazing and awful events off it. We HAVE been spoilt over the last 3 years by the sense of journey, togetherness and belonging not felt (by me anyway) since the Stringer & Walker days.
In one year, onse single year, it has all but disappeared into abject championshipism. Which is fine by me if on field performances bring joy, sadly also missing. The board, management team, club leaders have not acknowledged this or their part in it rather choosing the “hide and may go away” technique we all used when young.
The local media are the fans voice, please stay strong in reporting truth, honesty and sense of feeling we all share. and hopefully, our club and fans will find each other again.
Ahh the ostrich exercise normally because the truth hurts , I wish Stuart Webber would leave I for one cannot stand him .
Well said Kevin.
We are not expecting the earth. Just to be treated with respect.
One of my mates who goes home and away never has any change out of £100 when he goes away, more than that for some of the longer away trips.
Delia, Stuart and Michael should realize it isn’t cheap following your team these days.
Cutting off our conduit to the club is senseless and petty.
