WE MEET AGAIN… City head to the Vitality hoping to go one better than last season

25th September 2020 By Allan Kemp 4 Comments

If what follows sounds a tad familiar, that’s maybe because it is. This is the piece Allan wrote ahead of City’s trip to the Vitality Stadium last season, when they earned their first away point of the campaign. Little did we know at the time we’d only go on to win five more! Since then, […]

WE MEET AGAIN… Alex’s PNE, guests at our small-scale ‘welcome home’ party

18th September 2020 By Allan Kemp Leave a Comment

Allan’s been given the week off as he’s already written a ‘We Meet Again’ – penned as part of the lead-up to last season’s FA Cup tie at Deepdale. So, if what follows has an FA Cup hue, then you’ll know why, but it still offers a nostalgic reminder of when Canary yellow and Preston […]

WE MEET AGAIN… Huddersfield Town

11th September 2020 By Allan Kemp 6 Comments

The Premier League dream is over. City find themselves back in familiar territory of The Championship and a new fixture list full of old friends and foes. My weekly series ‘We Meet Again’ returns as part of MyFootballWriter’s pre-match preview, where I look back at previous clashes between Norwich City and our upcoming Championship opponents. […]

WE MEET AGAIN… the FA Cup re-unites City with a recent ex in a Deepdale toughie

3rd January 2020 By Allan Kemp 6 Comments

This Saturday it’s a week off from Premier League struggles as City travel to Preston North End in the third round of the FA Cup. It’s one of the most anticipated weekends of the football season, a tournament those magic extends across the football-loving globe. Be it a classic giant-killing or a famous cup run, […]

WE MEET AGAIN: No shortage of City/Spurs connections, including one of the greats

27th December 2019 By Allan Kemp 4 Comments

Last but by no means least we welcome another of the game’s glamour clubs – Tottenham Hotspur. Fittingly for concluding my ‘we meet again series’ Tottenham are one of our oldest opponents, a rivalry dating back to the Southern League days. Spurs at home – a perfect conclusion to a Christmas weekend! Tottenham, along with […]

WE MEET AGAIN: Can City extend their recent good record against the Old Gold?

18th December 2019 By Allan Kemp 5 Comments

A traditional Saturday afternoon kick-off seems appropriate for the visit of one of football’s historic old clubs. At 3 o’clock, City will kick off against another founder member of the Football League, the famous old gold and black of Wolverhampton Wanderers.    Wolverhampton were the Kings of English football during the 1950s. They won three League […]

WE MEET AGAIN: So, what usually happens when Canaries and Foxes meet? One guess

12th December 2019 By Allan Kemp 5 Comments

Unforgettable Premier League Champions in 2015/16 and serious contenders for a Champions League place (or better) this season under Brendan Rodgers. Leicester City have become the model, the inspiration, the hope for every club in the land – Norwich City included. They have made the transition from bouncing between the top two divisions to one […]

WE MEET AGAIN: A modern-day ‘rivalry’ with Blades but also one with history

6th December 2019 By Allan Kemp 2 Comments

Delay the roast. Fresh from Arsenal last week, is another Sunday 14:00 kick-off at Carrow Road. This week we welcome our fellow promotion winners from last season’s Championship – Sheffield United.  In recent years a modern-day ‘rivalry’ has emerged between Farke’s Canaries and Chris Wilder’s Blades. It was sparked before Norwich’s trip to Bramall Lane […]

WE MEET AGAIN: Norfolk’s and Hampshire’s finest clash yet again… in a six-pointer

3rd December 2019 By Allan Kemp 2 Comments

We’ve been up together and we’ve been down together. Rivals from way back to our amateur days, when football was in its infancy in Norfolk and Hampshire. This week also marks the return of an old friend from the Championship – The midweek fixture – as Norwich and Southampton do battle, for the 128th time, […]

WE MEET AGAIN: Toe-to-toe with ‘football royalty’ as Arsenal head to the Carra

28th November 2019 By Allan Kemp 1 Comment

From one top-flight regular in Everton to another, Arsenal, who are next up at Carrow Road. The Gunners’ record is incredible. This season marks a century of continuous campaigns in the Premier League and its predecessor Division 1. That’s 100 years at the top table without experiencing the dreaded relegation – imagine that! With a […]

We meet again… Everton: Mike Walker… super-Dave… and a Beckford hat-trick!

20th November 2019 By Allan Kemp 1 Comment

Us Norwich fans have suffered relegation from the top division of English football more than most. Seven times in total, four of those from the Premier League. This is in stark contrast to Saturday’s opponents, Everton. The Toffees are founder members of the Football League and have only spent four seasons outside the top-flight, the […]

WE MEET AGAIN: Plenty of history between the two ‘yellows’ with City generally on top

7th November 2019 By Allan Kemp Leave a Comment

Friday night football is back at Carrow Road. There is no better way to end the working week, as we welcome fellow ‘yellows’ Watford FC to Norfolk. With both sides occupying the bottom two spots it’s already shaping up to be an epic battle. A classic ‘six-pointer’, but, as we shall, see it’s not the […]

WE MEET AGAIN: From Goldstone to Withdean to Amex and now Prem regulars

31st October 2019 By Allan Kemp Leave a Comment

Last week it was the three-times European Champions Manchester United, this week a club, that 22 years ago was desperately clinging on to a draw at Hereford. A result that, by their fingertips, kept them in the Football League. A fortnight after Bournemouth, it’s another trip to the South Coast as Norwich travel to Brighton […]

WE MEET AGAIN: The 59ers… Bestie… City owning the 80s… and 1993 heartache

24th October 2019 By Allan Kemp Leave a Comment

This Sunday we welcome to Carrow Road, arguably the world’s biggest club – Manchester United. From the Busby Babes to Charlton, Best and Law, the class of 92 and Sir Alex Ferguson’s dynasty, it is more than a football club, United is a global sporting institution. England’s first European Cup winners and the country’s most […]

WE MEET AGAIN: The Bondy revolution… Alex N’s debut… Jonny’s red… and PL fabric

17th October 2019 By Allan Kemp 5 Comments

After a start to the season that has seen City play some of the grand old names of English football – AFC Bournemouth v Norwich City is not a fixture that evokes memories of bygone days. Say Bournemouth and most City fans would think of the seaside and retirement homes. But today, despite their small […]

WE MEET AGAIN: The Lambert saga… Wembley heartache… and Sutchy the hero!

3rd October 2019 By Allan Kemp 1 Comment

We went down together in 2016 and back up together three seasons later, in 2019. Shared emotions, from the depths of relegation despair to the unbridled joy that comes with promotion and, with it, an invite to football’s biggest party. Aston Villa, the second former European Champions to visit Carrow Road this season, which says […]

WE MEET AGAIN: The Glaziers… Selhurst agony… Stringer’s heroics… and Mr Chase

26th September 2019 By Allan Kemp 1 Comment

If Burnley v Norwich fixtures are a rarity, City’s next away trip is to a familiar foe – Crystal Palace. With over 110 matches stretching back to the outbreak of the First World War, there has been plenty of drama, excitement, highs and lows to get our teeth into. Here are some of the highlights […]

WE MEET AGAIN: Turf Moor an unhappy hunting ground… time to buck that trend

19th September 2019 By Allan Kemp 1 Comment

Burnley away, a trip to one of the Football League’s founder members. Turf Moor, in an era of soulless, out-of-town stadia, is a welcome relief. It is a throwback to fond, hazy memories of football past, a traditional, old fashioned ground oozing charm and character. Saturday’s trip is certainly one to appeal to those of […]
