Lappin having the time of his life after getting the captain’s gig in JPT success

2nd September 2009 By Latest News Leave a Comment

City midfielder Simon Lappin has admitted he's living the Canary dream under new boss Paul Lambert, his one-time Celtic idol.

Lappin has started every game under the Scot so far and was made captain for last night's Johnstone's Paint Trophy 1-0 win over Brentford.

And after being cast aside under Glenn Roeder and a bench warmer for Bryan Gunn's Canaries, he is just happy to be playing again. It's clear Lambert is a fan…

Martin happy to lay down his marker in front of the new boss as City slip into second round

2nd September 2009 By Latest News Leave a Comment

Chris Martin's love affair with the Johnstone's Paints Trophy continued last night as his 30th minute strike proved enough to see the Canaries through to the second round of the competition.

City could and, probably, should have won by rather more than the one goal against visitors Brentford after turning on the style for the game's opening half-hour.

In the end, however, Martin's classy strike on the half-hour mark proved the difference as the …

Spillane all up for the cup, even if the City faithful will take a little more persuading

1st September 2009 By Latest News Leave a Comment

If anyone wishes to make a quip about the Johnstone Paints Trophy, don't do it within the hearing of Canary defender Michael Spillane.

For as the Canaries prepare to make their debut in the oft-derided competition with tonight's first round home clash with League One rivals Brentford, so Spillane will with some justification defend the 'JPT' to the hilt.

He has, after all, a Wembley winners medal sat on his mantelpiece something that few of his Canary …

Lambert draws a blank in transfer market as Martin fires City into the next round

1st September 2009 By Latest News Leave a Comment

City boss Paul Lambert was tonight celebrating a second, successive City victory, another clean sheet and one, small first step on the road to Wembley after Chris Martin's 30th minute strike earned the Canaries a 1-0 win over Johnstone's Paints Trophy visitors Brentford.

He also took time out to salute the City faithful 12,540 of whom headed for Carrow Road for this evening's first round clash; 8,000 more than the next best attendance of the night.

That was …

Gunn still hurting two weeks after City sacking. But he’s remaining defiant…

31st August 2009 By Latest News Leave a Comment

Former City boss Bryan Gunn admitted today that his Carrow Road exit has a left a bitter taste in the mouth, as he spoke in public for the first time since his sacking.

Speaking on Sky Sports' Soccer Extra programme, the Canary legend was honest and dignified about the events surrounding his dismissal on August 14th.

And while he hopes it won't sour his relationship with the Norfolk club, he revealed that two weeks on, it still hurt.

It was that 7-1 …

Russell comes back in from the cold as Lambert loses both Gill and Tudur Jones

31st August 2009 By Latest News Leave a Comment

City boss Paul Lambert looks set to welcome Darel Russell back in from the cold for tomorrow night's Johnstone Paints Trophy opener against Brentford after this morning revealing that new-boy Matty Gill could be sidelined for “at least a couple of months” with a knee injury.

With Owain Tudur Jones likewise sidelined for “a couple of weeks”, Lambert suddenly finds himself a little short in that midfield area – particularly for as long as he remains wary of asking kids to do a …

Lambert not giving much away on Wes as City triumph in the north east

30th August 2009 By Latest News Leave a Comment

City boss Paul Lambert has refused to rule out Wes Hoolahan departing before the transfer window slams shut on Tuesday after he was left out of the squad that defeated Hartlepool yesterday.

Lambert continues to shock with his team selection and both Hoolahan and Gary Doherty were notable by their absence yesterday.

The Scot certainly doesn't 'do' reputation and you've got to say it's working at the moment with two wins out of two in the …

Nelson tells City to get tough as he targets a Canary recall in familiar territory

29th August 2009 By Latest News Leave a Comment

City defender Michael Nelson has urged his team mates to 'do the nasty things' if they intend on bringing three points back from the north east today.

The Canaries have never really been known for their ability to get their hands dirty on trips such as Hartlepool (a).

All too often we've seen the Norfolk club slip up on the road against the so-called lesser lights.

But if they are to do anything this season, City simply have to pick up points away …

Lambert adds his first new face as City prepare for the long trek north

28th August 2009 By Latest News Leave a Comment

City boss Paul Lambert today completed his first bit of business as Canary boss with the capture of Newcastle 'keeper Fraser Forster on a one-month loan deal.

Ben Alnwick could well play at Hartlepool tomorrow with the Scot confirming he's 'OK' after that nasty collision with Frazier Campbell on Monday night.

But Lambert was not taking any chances with Alnwick and after his parent club Tottenham ordered him to undergo a fitness test before tomorrow's …

Sullivan and Gold linked with City takeover as Blues sale nears completion

27th August 2009 By Latest News Leave a Comment

After the Peter Cullum saga came and went, two more intriguing names have popped up in a national newspaper today, linked with a possible Norwich City takeover.

David Sullivan and David Gold, the current co-owners of Birmingham City, are already on the lookout for a new project as Carson Yeung's buyout of the Blues nears completion.

And the Guardian heavily linked the pair with West Ham United, Cardiff City and the Canaries this morning.

Whether they …

25th August 2009 By Latest News Leave a Comment

City livewire Cody McDonald has admitted that the Canary squad are still on trial after boss Paul Lambert made yet more changes for the Carling Cup defeat to Sunderland.

After an extremely bold start to his Carrow Road managerial career where Lambert made six, sweeping changes to the side that lost at Brentford he made a further six last night.

The Scot admitted afterwards that he is going to give more or less everyone some game time so he can decide who is in it for …

Lambert happy with the Canary spirit despite yet another early Cup exit

25th August 2009 By Latest News Leave a Comment

Despite yet another early Carling Cup exit for the Canaries last night, boss Paul Lambert declared himself happy with his side's committed showing against a slick Sunderland outfit.

Despite the obvious gulf in class, it wasn't really a 4-1 and in truth, City could have been ahead before the Mackems took the lead through Teemu Tainio.

Simon Whaley, in particular, was guilty of missing a glorious chance when he was one-on-one with Craig Gordon.

But …

Bruce to make changes for TV clash. 'Whatever side we put out should be capable of winning…'

24th August 2009 By Latest News Leave a Comment

Like his Canary counterpart, Sunderland boss Steve Bruce has admitted he will chop and change his side for tonight's live Sky Carling Cup clash at Carrow Road.

The ex-Canary defender revealed he was not really one for making wholesale changes and resting a team for Cup encounters.

But with the start his team have made to the Premier League season with two wins in three games he will be keen to build on that great beginning and keep his big guns fresh.

24th August 2009 By Latest News Leave a Comment

New City boss Paul Lambert was promising further changes ahead of tonight's Carling Cup second round clash with Premiership visitors Sunderland.

For whilst the majority of managers might have looked at Saturday's 5-2 defeat of Wycombe Wanderers and simply said: 'Same again, boys…' as Steve Bruce's new charges roll into Carrow Road, Lambert has other priorities.

Not least discovering just what players he has at his disposal; who else could do him a job …

Lambert not alone in having a perfect day. Life was equally good for Mr Smith

23rd August 2009 By Latest News Leave a Comment

City teenager Korey Smith could be forgiven for pinching himself at a little after 3.30pm yesterday afternoon.

For after a summer in which he had barely troubled any team-sheet courtesy of an ill-timed injury, there he was on the centre stage at Carrow Road – drilling home an absolute peach of a 25-yard drive on his first-ever home start.

Surely, it could get any better?

Well, it could. And it did a little after 4.15pm when Smith found his best pal Tom Adeyemi …

Lambert off to a flier as he rings six, big changes and reaps his due reward

22nd August 2009 By Latest News Leave a Comment

New Canary chief Paul Lambert enjoyed a dream start to his Canary managerial career as Norwich swept Wycombe Wanderers aside 5-2.

This being Norwich, it wasn't without the odd nightmare – both Wanderers goals owed much to horror moments from first Jens Berthel Askou and then Michael Spillane – but having made six changes to the side that lost 2-1 at Brentford in midweek, so Lambert was rewarded with a compelling performance from his new charges.

“I felt the response of …

Lambert pays tribute to his big No9. A ‘proper player – that’s for sure…’ says the boss

22nd August 2009 By Latest News Leave a Comment

New City boss Paul Lambert was, with some reason, a happy man tonight after watching the Canaries rack up a 5-2 win over the visiting Wycombe Wanderers in his first full game in charge of the Norfolk club.

Two goals from new City hero Grant Holt provided the cornerstone of this afternoon's desperately-needed success as Lambert continued to make a big impression in his new surroundings.

For if the week had seen sweeping changes to the backroom staff at Colney with the …

Culverhouse looking to give his new charges a helping hand ahead of second City debut

22nd August 2009 By Latest News Leave a Comment

City UEFA Cup hero Ian Culverhouse has admitted that the Canaries desperately need that first league win on the board as he prepares to make his debut in the dugout alongside Paul Lambert for today's clash with Wycombe.

Like Lambert yesterday, assistant manager Culverhouse has pinpointed a lack of confidence in the City ranks and that is something the new coaching team will be looking to rectify as soon as possible.

And while he believes there is still a hangover …

Lambert urges his team to ‘go and enjoy it’. Make the crowd work for you…

21st August 2009 By Latest News Leave a Comment

New City boss Paul Lambert today told his players to go out and relish playing in front of 25,000 at Carrow Road tomorrow against Wycombe Wanderers.

There was some suggestion that the Canary XI froze on the opening day of the season against, ironically, Lambert's Colchester in that 7-1 shocker.

Certain sections commented that the noise and atmosphere was maybe just too much for some of the starting line-up.

But the Scot believes you've got problems if …

20th August 2009 By Latest News Leave a Comment

It was all change at Carrow Road today after former City hero Ian Culverhouse and Gary Karsa made the short trip north to be confirmed as members of Paul Lambert's backroom staff.

Culverhouse joins as the Scot's assistant and Karsa will take up a new role as 'head of football operations' as 'Team Paul' begins to take shape.

But despite Ian Butterworth's resignation yesterday and chief scout John 'Dixie' Deehan also leaving the club, …
