Ahead of Canaries v Robins, our Matt has been chatting with David Byrom – a sports journalist with Bristol Live. Here’s what he had to say… *** Matt: I’m looking down our fixtures from now until the end of the season and for me, this is our toughest game. Do you see this one as […]
Time for City to dust themselves down, regroup and go for the win at Brentford
It’s that most wonderful time of year. Fixtures are coming thick and fast but for Daniel Farke, the next may not come quick enough following the first defeat since October 6th to Frank Lampard’s Derby County. While Carrow Road brought more relevance to our entrance tune All of the lights, the curtain call may have […]
BRENTFORD PREVIEW: Afternoon naps… the Wendy House… and Bees promoting from within
Ahead of a collision of Canaries and Bees, Matthew Howman has been chatting with talkSPORT presenter and Brentford fan extraordinaire, Natalie Sawyer… *** Hi Natalie, I’ll start off by saying what a great job you’ve been doing on talkSPORT and it’s great to speak with you. How have you been enjoying the challenge so far? […]
READING PREVIEW: The Tilehurst End meets MyFootballWriter ahead of Canaries v Royals
Ahead of tonight’s trip to Reading, Matthew Howman has been chatting to the excellent Tilehurst End’s Simeon Pickup… *** Thanks for joining us Simeon. First of all tell me about your history as a fan, what made you start supporting Reading FC and what have been the highlights? To my shame, for the first 10 years […]
BAGGIES PREVIEW: Cheesy songs… Big Darren… Jimmy Eat World… and Gayle for Rondon
When Matt met Jonny … MFW’s Matt Howman chats to a WBA counterpart to mull over what *might* unfold tomorrow… After a gutsy comeback against a spirited Birmingham, City face West Bromwich Albion tomorrow with both teams looking to achieve their first win of the season. A draw was probably a fair result at St. Andrews […]
Big season awaits. Let’s not be new members of the ‘Championship stagnation’ club
It’s finally that time of the year when the world of football grinds to a halt and fans across the country gather their breath for another season. We were well and truly spoilt this summer with a tremendous World Cup, I was getting all too familiar with watching three games a day during the group […]
Who says Tettey can’t pass? Easy to underestimate the value of one of the few Hughton/Neil ‘remainers’
I’ve sat down to write this piece with the deafening boos of vehemently angry Arsenal fans ringing in my ears. I’ve been listening to the Arsenal vs. Man City game and for the Arsenal fans it’s same old, same old. I’m sure they’ll be having a post-match field day on Arsenal Fan TV. Wenger has […]
BARNSLEY PREVIEW: Matt meets Rob, who kindly reminds us The Tykes haven’t won here since 1937! *gulp*
Barnsley come to Carrow Road on Saturday on the back of two victories and seven points accrued in the past three games. Norwich on the other hand suffered from the pressures of a hard fought derby day victory and a tense Carabao cup loss to Arsenal with three straight defeats to sit in a very […]
The football world’s gone mad. If City did return to the Prem, how could they compete with the huge spenders?
It’s back! With no major international tournaments to keep us occupied in the interim, the past few months have been barren of football. Painful. The new season has kicked off and I’m now officially happier than… Donald Trump using the words “fire and fury” to threaten a nation Jeff Bezos looking at his tax bill […]
“For the money” – Three words that reminded us the beautiful game is being ruined for future generations
Whether the injection of money into football has ruined the game is another debate. What it has done has progressed the sport into an athletic pursuit. The game is tactically more intricate than many would have thought possible. The speed of the Premier League is incomparable to the old Division One in the nineties.
Clichés count for little when pride and passion are not evident on the pitch. This team needs a refresh
Neil was clear in his post-match comments that he still believes in his ability, which to an extent I agree with, but the lack of tactical changes resembles the period he went through in the Premier League when his game-plans were first found out.
City in decent fettle but has Alex missed a trick by not refreshing a squad that has tasted failure?
It was last season where the problems lie. Again, we are beginning to see how the transfer market is a more complex area to navigate than we perhaps thought but when we failed to breathe new life into a squad that had already been relegated two seasons previous we were setting up to fail.
City’s transfer window woes down to the ‘cheap approach’? Or identifying the wrong player in the first place?
Listening to Canary Call on the way back from the game on Saturday I found myself thinking more and more about the board’s admission that they did indeed try to sign players in the summer window but for undisclosed reasons those signings didn’t come to fruition.
Is it now time to introduce home grown talent to the squad? Now time for the academy to deliver?
We all know that there is some fine home-grown talent out on loan and with the prizes at stake in the Premier League I have no arguments with turning to experienced players to keep us afloat but I think it’s time that Norwich fans have a homegrown player to idolise.
Three and a bit seasons and just 46 games to his name, but is it now finally Ryan Bennett’s time?
For many years now City fans have had to prepare themselves for the disappointment of dropping out of the League or FA cup after a lacklustre performance at home or away to lesser opposition, with the most recent chance of a Wembley trip in the cup being thrown away to a poor Aston Villa side.
Crystal Palace performance not without its faults but unworthy of the season’s first ‘Canary Caller’
Little over two months ago we were celebrating one of the greatest days in Norwich City’s recent history, a day that may never have happened if Alex Neil wasn’t appointed when he was and 90 minutes into the new season there are fans willing to throw him out? Unbelievable.
The time to solidify City’s Premier League status is now. So… it’s over to you Mr McNally
Just two years ago Ricky van Wolfswinkel was seen as the player who was going to spearhead the City strike-force and drive them from a team constantly battling for safety to an established Premier League club under the guidance of one Chris Hughton.
The price of football success: invariably felt most by the very lifeblood of the game – the fans
Would Norwich fans perhaps be happy to see our club fuelled with cash by an unknown quantity from the Middle East? Would we want to see a consortium of rich investors pool together and splash the cash in the search of success? I don’t think so.
